The Government of Canada’s Caregiver Program helps Canadian employers recruit foreign caregivers when there is a shortage of suitable Canadian citizens or permanent residents. After two years working as a caregiver in Canada, a client can apply for permanent residence.
The Caregiver Program is open to skilled or semi-skilled foreign nationals. The client must meet certain requirements, including language skills, work experience, and education. An employer in Alberta must provide a customer with a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and a written contract. After two years working as a caregiver in Canada, a client can apply for permanent residence.
